Metric Review

Today was all review of the metric system.   It was conversion from one unit to another as well as understanding the values of the prefixes.  The worksheet also applied the use of the metric system into different situations.  There will be a TEST over this as well as other concepts either Tuesday or Wednesday next week.  Stay tuned.

Metric Homework/Review Sheet

Basic Unit: Meter

We reviewed the metric system of measuring distance, the meter.  We compared is to customary measurement in order to gain some perspective about the two forms of measurement.  We went over the following powerpoint with our "guided notes" first.  Metric: Length Powerpoint Once completed, for practice we measured a few different things around the school using metric and then converted them to a different metric unit using the ladder method.

We also had homework practicing conversions.  It would be best to use the ladder method.(see Friday's post)  Along with this practice, there is a conclusion to write as well.

Metric System: Intro or Review

Well, the picture above pretty much says it all!  Above is the metric "ladder method" that allows students to convert to either smaller or larger units.  One thing not listed are the three metric base units: meter, liter, gram.

We did watch the brainpop.com video over metric units.  The movie gave us a mneumonic device to remember the metric unit names in order from largest to smallest.
